Swordsmanship course at Cannons Covent Garden

Medievel fightingCannons in Covent Garden would like to present a fascinating and exciting new course coming soon.

Have you ever dreamt of being the noble warrior, skilled in arms, wielding a sword nearly as tall as yourself, or imagined your self a swash-buckler relying on your skill with a sword to survive? Well this course is the course for you.

The Boars Tooth Fight school, in conjunction With Cannons Health club is proud to be able to offer the first course of its kind in a U.K gym. More kick arse than Kendo, more fun than Fencing Sword and Buckler A warrior art With internationally acclaimed, David Rawlings, one of the world's foremost experts on historical fencing, Cannons Covent Garden is running a four week starter course in the earliest fencing system I.33 sword and buckler. I.33 is the earliest recorded fencing system, dating from 1285-1340. In manuscript form, it, through a Latin and illustrative mix, teaches the art of fencing for civilian defense, it like many early sources sees no difference in the combat abilities on men and women, and illustrates both, training for combat.

The system as taught by Dave is authentic, athletic and historical, fast, dynamic, simple and sound, and, of course, is ruthlessly effective. It is a thrust based system, but unlike modern fencing encourages the use of binds, traps, grapples and throws. Much more of a martial art than modern fencing, I.33 will teach you all the timing, structure and core stability needed to become a swordsman. We will provide you with a fencing mask, a waster (a safe sword) buckler (small shield) and gloves. All you need to do, is bring yourself, a reasonable level of fitness, and a little bit of discipline. And we will show you the rest.
